Drawing Down the Drawdown Initiative
Drawing Down the Drawdown Initiative
In 2017, Pachamama Alliance launched the Drawdown Initiative, a series of workshops that supported people in finding their unique contribution to reversing global warming. Based on the breakthrough work conducted by Paul Hawken and an international group of experts and scientists at Project Drawdown, the Drawdown Initiative shared the finding that solutions exist today that can actually reverse—not just slow, mitigate, or lessen—global warming.
More than 15,000 people took part in the Drawdown Initiative since that time. Hundreds of people in 19 countries took it upon themselves to spread the word about this new possibility and break through the paralysis, overwhelm, and resignation so many feel around the issue of climate change.
While people appreciated learning and talking about reversing global warming, we noticed that they didn’t necessarily engage in actions with others in their community to do the work of reversing global warming. While they were inspired, they weren’t necessarily mobilizing into action. As the severity of the climate crisis became obviously more severe, it also became clear that more concrete actions were necessary to address it.
So the Pachamama Alliance has been researching what spurs people into action; how do people move from inspiration into being agents of change? In the fall of 2020, we began piloting a training that provides people with the concrete methodologies and tools they need to become effective agents of change.
As of April 15 2021, Pachamama Alliance is discontinuing the Drawdown Initiative workshop in order to focus our resources toward mobilizing people into action on climate justice solutions at the local level. Graduates of the Game Changer Intensive and other members of the Pachamama Alliance community will soon be able to enroll in Game Changer Action Trainings, a new series of offerings. These trainings aim to equip participants with the skills that will support them to become active in their community working on climate justice solutions.
If you want to explore the possibility of reversing global warming and the solutions that will get us there, we encourage you to visit Project Drawdown’s Drawdown Learn resources–especially the “Climate Solutions 101” course.
