For the past 2 years I told myself I should really be off setting my personal carbon footprint by planting trees. I put off investigating how to go about both by telling myself,
“This will probably be so big I can’t afford it.”
I recently read “Drawdown: the most comprehensive plan ever proposed to reverse global warming” written by Paul Hawken. In it are 100 solutions that already exist which, if acted upon, would REVERSE global warming. Many people write about slowing global warming or adapting to its effects but no one I know of has said it can be reversed. Each of Hawken’s solutions shows how it works, how much it costs, how much it saves, and how much carbon dioxide or its equivalent is either removed from the atmosphere or prevented from ever entering the atmosphere. It’s a game changer!!
Here’s how it changed me:
I’ve started my personal drawdown project.
I stopped lying to myself that I would offset my carbon footprint and discovered there is a fast, easy 2-step way to offset my carbon footprint:
1. Google: carbonfund.org You answer a simple set of questions and presto, the website computes your carbon footprint for you and your household. For me and my wife the figure was a little over $1,000 for 2018 including offsetting our vacation plans for the year.
2. Google: onetreeplanted.org For $1 per tree you can plant trees in projects they sponsor in any of the following regions: North America, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. The organization is a 501c3 so your contribution is tax deductible.
Plus you can solve all of your birthday present, Christmas present, etc. needs because you can dedicate or gift your trees to someone you care about by selecting "Gift Some Trees" on any project page. You will be prompted to choose a digital gift card to send to the recipient via email or text message. You can also write a personal message on their digital Tree Certificate using the 'Gift Options' field on the Cart page.
You pay for your trees on-line with your credit card FAST.
I invite you to go on-line and pay your carbon offset by buying trees at $1 per tree to offset the amount of money you computed on the carbonfund.org website.
Put a reminder in your calendar to do this every December for the rest of your life.
Make gifts of trees in the names of people you love on important occasions.
Forward this message to people you know and invite them to join you in offsetting their carbon footprint with trees.
