Way #24: Step Up to Draw Down

We’re on Day 24 of 30 days/30 ways; September is coming to a close. And although we’re reaching the end of the 30 days, achieving drawdown—the point in time when the levels of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere peak and begin to decline—is a 30+ year project.

Pachamama Alliance is committed to widely spreading the message of the possibility of reversing global warming and inspiring people to get into action, and you have a key role to play. What comes next is entirely up to you.

Now is the time to choose your next step. We offer a couple of options for you below.

----------------

Why Do This Way?

Because global warming! The planet needs you.

When we heard from activist Will Grant before, he made it clear that there are many ways to get engaged in reversing global warming:

We’re going to have to change everything. What we eat, how we produce power, the clothes we wear, all of this. And every profession has a role to change. Every neighborhood is a place that can make the change. And so I think it’s powerful for people to realize that where they live and how they live and where they work is exactly the place where they can make the change.

And Project Drawdown founder Paul Hawken pointed out that whatever calls to you is the right way to get involved:

We need all of it. And we need to honor all of each other. And so when somebody looks at that list, it’s what resonates with them. So where do they make sense to you? Where do they make sense to your community? Where do they make sense to your village, or to your town, or to your company, or to your city, or to your state, or your province, or your farm, or your grassland, or your cows? It depends on who you are and where you are, your culture.

And in that way, you know what is going to be where you can actually make a difference and accelerate the uptake of a given practice or technique or technology, rather than saying, therefore you should do this. I have no idea what anybody should do. I know that people know what they should do when they read and understand something that makes sense to them.

Take stock of your situation and figure out what way to participate in reversing global warming makes sense given your circumstances. We’re here to support you!

Engaging with This Way

Here are some of the ways you can continue your journey with Drawdown:

  • Go deeper with the 100 Drawdown Solutions. Return to Way #2 to continue to explore the Solutions and the thinking behind Project Drawdown. Identify the Solution(s) you are ready to get involved with. Go back and review Will Grant’s message about Levels of Action (Way #3), pick your next steps and get into action. Talking about reversing global warming is great; getting into action is even better.
  • Participate in Pachamama Alliance’s 2-hour Reversing Global Warming: Introduction to Drawdown workshop. A Zoom version of the workshop is being offered this Wednesday, September 26th, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time. You can participate by phone or on your computer. It’s a great way to explore the topic of reversing global warming and the Drawdown solutions with others.
  • If you’re ready to take a step beyond that, gather together friends and colleagues and host your own Reversing Global Warming introductory workshop. It’s amazingly easy to do and deeply rewarding.
  • If you’re ready to really jump into action, learn about Drawdown Solutions: Getting into Action for an opportunity to explore Solutions you can take on with your community. For more information on this 5-session workshop, contact Emily Hittle at emily@pachamama.org.
